NIOS offers its courses of study through Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode of education popularly known as Open Schooling. NIOS develops its own curriculum, self learning material and media support programmes utilizing experience of faculty from various Academic and Vocational Education institutions/organizations.

1) Secondary

• Attested copy of Birth Certificate issued by the Municipal Authority or District Office of the Registrar of Birth.
• Transfer Certificate/School, Leaving Certificate showing applicant’s date of birth, issued by the last school attended by the applicant. In case of Govt.Schools the transfer certificate/school leaving certificate should signed by the Principal while in the case of Private schools it should it should also be countersigned by the competent education authority of State/or District Education Officer.

Minimum Education Qualification

• Certificate of Class VIII passed, or
• Self Certificate (as mentioned in the admission form)

2) Sr. Secondary

• Attested copy of the Certificate of Matriculation/Secondary Examination having a record of the Date of Birth. ( No other proof of age will be accepted for Sr. Secondary admissions)
• Original Leaving Certificate with Xerox copy.
• Secondary mark-sheet with Xerox copy.

Minimum Education Qualification

• Copy of the certificate of the Secondary Examination passed from a recognized Board of Secondary Education duly attested by a Gazetted Officer.
